AMSTENRADE/DEN BOSCH - The public prosecutor (OM) at the court of appeal in Den Bosch will not appeal after all against the sentence imposed on Kerkraden resident Frits S.(50) for extorting a hairdresser from Amstenrade. This was decided by the advocate general last Wednesday, the day before the start of the appeal case. Frits S. was previously sentenced by the Maastricht court to three years in prison, six months of which were suspended, for extorting his hairdresser. Six years in prison had been demanded against him. The attorney general withdrew the appeal at the very last moment, after S.'s lawyer Serge Weening requested it. "I told her that I had five police officers ready as witnesses. They were going to testify about the telephone extortion of the hairdresser from Amstenrade by my client. That was premeditated to frame my client. When, after some consideration, the attorney general was convinced of this, she withdrew the appeal. My client is satisfied with the sentence he now has to serve," said Weening.Frits S. asked his hairdresser in January to join him in the car, after which the two went for a drive. S. then informed his co-driver that he wanted a thousand euros from him. Should the barber not give this money, he would never see his wife and daughter again. S. eventually went to collect the demanded money from the store. Several weeks later, the Kerkraden man again called the Amstenraad barber and again demanded a sum of money (2,000 euros). However, the victim now refused to pay and went to the police. In consultation with the police, it was decided to trap Frits S..
