Four years in prison demanded against disco doorman

MAASTRICHT - The court in Maastricht has demanded four years in prison, including one suspended sentence with a probation period of two years, against a former doorman of disco Peppermill in Heerlen. The man from Purmerend is suspected of seriously mauling a visitor. On the night of May 2 to 3, GiuseppeK. while working as a doorman at the nightclub received a signal that an argument was going on in the disco. However, after some of these boys had been evicted from the nightclub by K., one of them reported to K. with a bloodied face, saying that outside the quarrel had flared up again. The considerably agitated doorman -'I felt screwed' - then decided to go after what he thought were the perpetrators in the car of a random passerby. K. gave one of them, the later victim, at least two hefty blows to his face.

According to witnesses, the suspected doorman, who has since been barred from his job at the Peppermill and as a security guard at Schiphol Airport, kicked the boy several more times. The victim eventually sustained a broken cheekbone, a jaw fracture and a broken eye socket from this incident. Prosecutor Verbaas did not have a good word to say about this conduct. "Defendant almost kicked the victim to death by playing his own right. He should have called the police, no more and no less." Serge Weening asked the court to acquit his client of attempted manslaughter and convict him of simple assault. "Indeed, there was no question of kicking my client, making some kind of soccer moves. That he caused this injury with his powerful hands is therefore quite possible."
