What happened on August 22, 2013 at coffee shop Brothers in Heerlen? A reconstruction should answer that on Thursday.
There was a shooting at the coffee shop at the time. Several men then tried to make off in a car and then drove into police. A member of an arrest team shot at the car. The co-driver was wounded in the process.
Research
Driver Glenn K. stated that he did not know they were police officers. He panicked and tried to get himself to safety by driving away. According to the judge, more investigation is needed to determine if this statement is true. That is why the reconstruction is taking place now.

During the reconstruction, the suspect, a witness and the police officers separately reenact the shooting. The circumstances of that night are imitated as much as possible. The officers wear the same clothing as at the time and the same music is played in the car at the same volume.
Seeing and hearing
"It is important that a picture can be formed of what it looked like from my client's position and what you were able to see and hear from his position," said attorney Lodewijk Rinsma. According to him, it is important to find out whether K. could have known whether they were agents or not.
Prison sentence
In this case, the shooting officer was sentenced in July 2015 to two years in prison for attempted manslaughter. That conviction caused great outrage within the police force. On appeal, the officer was still acquitted.
