Shots were fired in the center of Meerssen Sunday evening. The shooting incident took place just after 5:30 p.m. in the Beekstraat. Three persons have since been arrested.
Police received a report that shots had been fired from a passenger car at a group of youths standing outside. As far as is known, no one was injured. However, police found shell casings in the street, which are now being examined by the Forensic Investigation Department.
The suspects fled in the car. Officers who saw the car driving a short time later in Rothem detained three persons. They are young men from Meerssen whose ages are not known at this time. The car was impounded.
It is not yet known what prompted the shooting. Police are investigating the incident.
