Justice demands that youth center 't Waeske in Guttecoven pay 10,000 euros to the Child and Alcohol Foundation, following the death of 15-year-old Max à Campo in October 2016.
The soos also faces a suspended fine of 10,000 euros if it serves alcohol to minors again.
Fatal accident
With that demand came the prosecution Tuesday in the case, in which the youth center is suspected of being responsible for the fatal accident. According to the prosecution, the soos "structurally involved underage drinking.
Crossing
The 15-year-old boy from Born had drunk alcohol that evening at 't Waeske. When he left he did not go home, but cycled to a gas station on the A2 motorway and from there continued on foot. A few hundred meters further on he was hit on the highway when he tried to cross it.
Half liters
After the accident, the victim was found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.6. He had drunk 3 to 5 half liters of beer during the Halloween night at 't Waeske.
Way lost
In a victim's statement, the victim's mother said she holds the youth center liable for her son. "Adults did not intervene even when he was vomiting. He literally and figuratively lost his way and that on the first night he went out." According to her, the board of 't Waeske abandoned the boy to his fate, and failed on all counts.
Measures
From the board of 't Waeske, three board members were present at the hearing. They are not being prosecuted individually. The board admitted that supervision was deficient and that there was little control. Measures were taken after the fatal accident.
'Disproportionate'
Attorney finds the demand disproportionate. According to him, it remains to be seen whether the boy's alcohol consumption played a role in the fatal accident. Counsel also does not rule out the possibility that the boy committed suicide.
