A traffic altercation between a motorist and a moped rider injured a toddler last month. The child received a heavy chain and flying glass against his head when the angry moped driver smashed a car window.
The incident occurred on July 10 at parking garage the Groeet Genhei in Heerlen. Police are looking for the perpetrator and have released surveillance footage showing the man.
Over the head
The driver of the car overlooked the moped around 12:30 a.m. when leaving the parking garage. "Following that, a fierce traffic argument ensued in which strong words were exchanged," the police spokesperson said.
Heavy chain lock
Suddenly, the driver of the moped grabbed a chain lock from his trunk and smashed the rear window of the car with it. Behind the window was a toddler who got the flying glass and the heavy chain against his head.
The suspect immediately fled while the family rushed their injured child to the hospital.
Major impact
"The incident still has great impact on the two small children who were in the car. Therefore, we want to catch the perpetrator as soon as possible," the spokesman said. Police released footage from surveillance cameras showing the moped rider. The man spoke with a French accent.
