Suspect in De Heus murder case allowed to go to Netherlands (Limburger.nl)

The Department of Justice and Security appears to have cleared a bump toward a quick start to the trial on the murder of Andy de Heus.

The ministry announced Wednesday that the Netherlands wants to take over the sentence imposed by German judge Ron S. of Sittard. This was confirmed by the public prosecutor's office in Maastricht.

Main suspect

S. is the prime suspect in the Andy de Heus murder case before the Dutch judiciary. He is serving a six-year sentence in Germany for committing serious drug offenses.

Eavesdropped conversations during his German detention would have provided Dutch prosecutors with important evidence in the murder case . Ron S. himself, it now appears, asked to be allowed to serve his German sentence in the Netherlands.

Rapids

His lawyer Serge Weening also expects the De Heus case to gain momentum. "This step was not necessarily necessary for that. The Dutch judiciary could have tried to bring my client to the Netherlands temporarily for the criminal case."

A spokesman for the public prosecutor's office in Maastricht thinks that S. will be in a Dutch cell within four to eight weeks The last word is first up to the public prosecutor of the Aachen public prosecutor's office. No objections are expected from that side.

Delay

A few months ago, it seemed that S. would be brought to the Netherlands as early as January. The opinion on this from the Arnhem Court of Appeal was delayed. It did not come until January 8.

Andy de Heus was liquidated in 2012. Police found his remains in 2016 in Stevensweert.
