HEERLEN - In the suspicious package that was delivered to the Heerlen city hall Wednesday night was a threatening letter addressed to the city's mayor, Ralf Krewinkel. This was confirmed Tuesday by Sjanneke de Crom, attorney for the prime suspect. Her client, who was arrested on Thursday, was released on Tuesday but remains a suspect.
A City Council meeting was just underway at City Hall Wednesday evening. Everyone had to leave the building because of the package, on the advice of the Explosives Disposal Service Defense (EOD). The police announced earlier that they had no idea of the motive. "There are currently no administrative conflicts within the municipality of Heerlen that can be linked to this incident."
