Threatening letter addressed to mayor (Crimewatcher.co.uk)

HEERLEN The letter containing a serious threat delivered to the Heerlen town hall last Wednesday was addressed to Mayor Ralf Krewinkel. This is evident from investigations by CRIMEWATCHER. The prime suspect was detained for several days in the case and has since been released. He is suspected of extortion and threats, confirms his lawyer Sjanneke de Crom.

"My client has made a statement to the police. He remains a suspect in this case, the investigation is still ongoing," said counselor De Crom of Weening Strafrechtadvocaten in Maastricht. "The threatening letter was personally addressed to the mayor of Heerlen. I cannot say anything about its content at this time. To my knowledge, my client is not part of any group."

The police, who indeed speak of letter with a "serious threat," suspect that more persons have knowledge of the letter in question and urge these persons to get in touch with police. Mayor Ralf Krewinkel did not want to comment on the matter when asked. According to sources around the investigation, the package in question also allegedly contained some kind of fake bomb.

However, no one would confirm this. The fact is that last Wednesday evening, during a council meeting, the Heerlen city hall had to be evacuated. The Explosives Clearing Service Defense (EOD) then began investigating the package identified by officials as suspicious. This had been issued hours beforehand.
