Syria gangster released (Telegraph.co.uk)

Nineteen-year-old Maastricht Syria gangster Aïcha is released. This was decided by the investigating judge in Maastricht on Tuesday.

The young woman still remains suspected of participating in a terrorist organization, but is allowed out of the cell on conditions. Exactly what those conditions are was not disclosed. In any case, she must comply with any call from the police and judiciary.

The investigating judge actually found detention necessary to allow the investigation into Aïcha's corridors to proceed undisturbed. But a balancing act between the young woman's interest and society's interest in detention led the magistrate judge to decide that she may be released. The court is not saying exactly when that will happen.

Aïcha was in the news last week because of the story that her mother had rescued her from Syria. But according to the prosecution, the mother did not go to Syria herself and may have waited for her daughter at the Turkish-Syrian border.

Mother and daughter arrived in the Netherlands from Turkey last week. Aïcha was arrested and put in a Maastricht police cell.
