Four of the seven men suspected of the manslaughter of Fer Loontjens - along with two others - are also suspected of involvement in an earlier aggravated assault on the Market in Geleen, in June 2007.On the night of June 9-10, two men were beaten and kicked. One of them had to be transported to the hospital in a comatose condition; the second sustained a shattered shoulder. For investigators, the violence on Carnival Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, prompted them to look again at that "old" assault. The main suspect in the Loontjens case, Stephan P., was also allegedly involved. Earlier, the police could not get a grip on this case because witnesses remained silent for fear of the perpetrator group.
The prosecution wanted both cases heard simultaneously, but the court decided to hear them separately, one after the other.
It is not yet known when the suspects in the June assault are due to appear last June.
