MAASTRICHT There will be a reconstruction of a stabbing during the arrest of a Bunde resident in which three officers of the Limburg police were injured, in May last year. This is confirmed by Sjanneke de Crom, the man's lawyer, to CRIMEWATCHER. She had requested this from the court in November. Although the prosecution opposed reconstruction, the court granted the counsel's request.
The man (69) from Bunde stated earlier during interrogations to the investigators that he had blacked out when he struck the police officers. The man is charged with attempted manslaughter of two police officers. He is also suspected by the public prosecutor in Limburg of attempted aggravated assault on a third officer as well as of threatening a total of four officers. He has since been at large for some time; his pre-trial detention was suspended at the request of the defense in August 2016.
The violent incident took place in the man's garden on the Berkenlaan in Bunde, part of the municipality of Meerssen. The police went to the scene on May 7 last year after a report from local residents that the aggressor was here waving a knife and was under the influence of alcohol. When the officers wanted to arrest him, he stabbed one of the police officers in the leg. Three officers ended up suffering cuts in this stabbing.
On Tuesday, March 14, a so-called pre-trial hearing will take place in this case. "Here we will discuss what the exact details of the reconstruction will be," said criminal lawyer De Crom.
