Six months in prison and a two-year driving ban. That is the punishment a Belgian man received for causing a fatal accident in November 2019 in Schinnen. On November 19, 2019, the then 34-year-old Belgian got behind the wheel with eight glasses of beer on. In his Citroën Berlingo, he was driving along Altaarstraat, but ended up with his vehicle on the wrong side of the road. As a result, he collided head-on with an oncoming Volkswagen Polo. The victim, a 35-year-old man from Hoensbroek, suffered life-threatening injuries and died at the hospital not much later.
