Geleen - In the investigation into the violent death of Fer Loontjes from Geleen, police are looking for 33-year-old Gennaro S., previously convicted of his involvement in murders and robberies committed by the Leerdam Gang.
Sources around the investigation confirmed this. S. allegedly dealt Loontjes the initial blow on Carnival Sunday, Feb. 3, which prompted the fatal altercation. He has been a fugitive ever since. Gennaro S. was sentenced to seven years in prison in 1997 for his involvement in very violent incidents committed by a group of youths who became known as the Gang of Leerdam. Of this gang, consisting of fourteen Moluccan youths, S. was a member in the 1990s. The gang members were convicted of more than ten violent and armed robberies of private individuals, illegal casinos and supermarkets, mainly in the Central Netherlands. The gang killed two people in the process. After his release in 2004, when he had served two-thirds of his sentence, S. lived alternately in Leerdam, Amersfoort and Geleen.
