HELMOND - A 28-year-old Pole has been extradited to the Netherlands for alleged involvement in the death of his 47-year-old Helmond girlfriend. The woman was found dead in her home on Volderhof on May 11, 2008.
According to police, the Pole was arrested in Poland back in June 2008 in connection with the case. Because he first had to serve another sentence, he was only recently extradited to the Netherlands.
The now 28-year-old man fled to his home country after his girlfriend's death. When he was apprehended there, it turned out that he was still serving a sentence for an earlier conviction in Poland. During interrogations in December 2008, the Pole allegedly already confessed to his involvement in the Helmond woman's death.
On Monday, the Pole was arraigned before the examining magistrate in 's-Hertogenbosch. He is in jail. The man will be tried in the Netherlands. He will serve any sentence in Poland.
