During the broadcast of RTL Boulevard on October 24, 2024, the start of the appeal in the case surrounding the death of Peter R. de Vries was discussed. In that context, attention was paid to the trial attitude of Konrad W., who is assisted by us.
During the broadcast, there was speculation about the possibility of a crown witness arrangement on appeal. For reasons of principle, it is our firm's firm policy not to provide assistance to crown witnesses. By this way we would therefore like to make it clear that a crown witness arrangement is in no way at issue in Konrad W.'s case.
In view of the safety of the client and those around him, we consider it necessary to emphasize the following. It is not without reason that during the pre-trial hearing the legal profession drew attention to the background of this case and the associated dangers if a suspect starts talking. Unmotivated speculations can (unintentionally) have major consequences for those involved in this case. The defense calls on the media to be mindful of these interests.
It is on client's own initiative that he will assess - after studying the file - whether he wishes to make a statement. To the extent that client will make a statement at all, he will in no way declare the role or involvement of any other person. Moreover, he will in no case make any statement about his own part in front of the police, but only at a public hearing.
