DEN BOSCH - The court of appeal in Den Bosch on Wednesday handed down one-day prison sentences combined with community service in the Valkenburg vice case. The 22 men who had sex with 16-year-old prostitute Kimberley in a hotel room in Valkenburg two years ago received sentences of one day in jail and community service. They did not know the girl was a minor.
Those sentences were also imposed by the Maastricht court last July. A one-day jail sentence is usually not actually served. The public prosecutor therefore appealed these rulings. It believes that "substantial" prison sentences should be imposed.
Four men were acquitted. One suspect received a more severe sentence.
