The Public Prosecutor's Office has demanded four years of unconditional imprisonment against a now 21-year-old man who raped a German student in her own room in Maastricht during Carnival 2020. The man climbed in through an open window, first quietly smoked a cigarette and then sexually assaulted the student. The incident causes great unrest in a student city like Maastricht, according to the public prosecutor: "Young students should be able to feel safe in their own rooms in a strange city."
