Soufian Lahnstein was shot dead by not one but two men on Dec. 1, 2013. That is what prosecutor David van Kuppenveld is convinced of.
In his view, both Albanian Perparim S. (38) and his co-defendant Mario Z. (63) from Liège fired a bullet at the 28-year-old Maastricht man on the Oeverwal in Maastricht. He said this Tuesday in the Roermond District Court during an interim hearing on the high-profile murder case.
Both
The two suspects have so far said little about the circumstances of the shooting on the outskirts of Maastricht city center. What is certain is that they want to blame each other. "They both did it," Van Kuppenveld said.
On Tuesday morning, it was surprisingly revealed that Albanian Perparim S. has been in the house of detention in Ter Apel for nine months. The man appears to have reported to police in the Netherlands on his own accord in the fall of 2017.
Albania
Investigating authorities had known for some time that the murder suspect had made his way to Albania via Belgium. When they tracked him down, it turned out he was in jail there for another case. Albania does not extradite compatriots to the Netherlands.
Liège resident Mario Z. was released several times in the case, but eventually ended up back in jail. The case will continue later this year.
