Prosecutor: Thijs H. diminished culpability (Limburger.nl)

The public prosecutor is asking the court in Maastricht to declare triple murder suspect Thijs H. (28) from Brunssum diminished liable.

"It is unimaginable that someone would slaughter three people in such a way, when there is no disorder involved," prosecutor Joan Holthuis said Tuesday afternoon. Sentencing will follow later today.

The PBC report the prosecution considers "not completely reliable and incomplete." Whether it makes sense to have H. examined again, the prosecution leaves it up to the court. According to the prosecution, objective support for the story of H. and his parents that he was psychotic from May 2018 is lacking. Clinicians at mental health institution Mondriaan, among others, have not seen that either, the prosecution argues.

Mondriaan has written an angry letter to the PBC because the experts last week sharply criticized the mental health system and in particular Mondriaan, where H. was under treatment. The PBC did not contact those treatment providers, while Mondriaan says it is "absolutely customary to ask additional questions. The PBC acted reprehensibly and carelessly."
