For the murder of a 22-year-old woman in a villa in Hilversum, a 23-year-old man from Rotterdam should receive 18 years in prison. This was demanded by the Public Prosecution on Tuesday during the criminal case in the court in Lelystad.
The naked body of the 22-year-old Maastricht woman was found in a pool of blood in the living room of the villa on July 9 last year. She had been stabbed 27 times, 12 to 13 of them on the back of her body. At least six stabbings were fatal.
Kelvin M. and the victim had a fledgling relationship. On Tuesday, he stated that he stabbed the woman in self-defense after she attacked him. "After that, all I thought about was suicide," he told the judges.
M. met the woman at a club in Rotterdam in 2018. He was there as a visitor and she worked there as a prostitute. A relationship developed. On July 4, M. was stabbed in his face in Rotterdam. He would not answer questions about this from the judges. The suspect was extorted, the prosecution believes. After that incident, M. asked if he could go with the later victim to Hilversum. WhatsApp messages erased from her phone with her best friend show that she wanted to evict him from her house on July 6.
Substantial injuries
The two prosecutors believe that M. was so angry about this that he stabbed the woman in the shower that day. In her flight, she got no further than a few steps out of the bathroom. She died almost immediately from the substantial injuries. According to the officers, M. then took quiet time to tend to his injured fingers. He had cut himself on the knife. Several hours after the stabbing, M. jumped in front of a car on the A27 ramp in an attempt to take his own life. He came to in the hospital.
Lawyer Françoise Landerloo believes the prosecution has proven the murder on the basis of only a few deleted messages on the victim's phone. She wants M. dismissed from prosecution. "The victim was out of her mind when she attacked M. in the shower," she said.
