The highest sentences were for the four men alleged to have actually used brute force. Santino S 21 heard fourteen years against him; Jeffrey S 24 twelve years plus tbs; Emrys H. twelve years and Tommy V. 18 ten years plus tbs.About the role of Lesly S. 26, the prosecution came to a different view: in Maastricht he was still seen as the leader of the gang, who himself stayed at a distance and let others do the dirty work. Yesterday the prosecution argued that his role was not the most important and demands ten years.
Maud de P 20 - one of the two women who acted as drivers - should be acquitted, the prosecution now believes, because it has not become clear to what extent she knew that the men intended to take away someone's car by force. The second driver, Sarah H. 25 from Weert, must receive a suspended prison sentence and community service. Johnny van V. 27, who sold Collette's car for 2,500 euros, deserves thirty months, six of which are suspended, in the eyes of the attorney general. In the eyes of the counsel for the eight defendants, the demands are still far too high. Counselor T. Hiddema of Santino S. argued that the "syndrome of the black mark" had taken hold here, just like in the early 1990s with the Venlo gang: "These were children of the same stature, with similar daft childish stories, who always put a dose of blame on each other: the syndrome of the black mark. These are haphazard types, who did not act thoughtfully, but in an ad hoc situation."
The court will rule Feb. 1.
