Prosecutor demands prison terms of up to 7 years for smuggling Syrian refugees (OM.nl)

The public prosecutor (OM) on Tuesday demanded prison sentences of twice 24 months, 4.5 years and 7 years against four suspects at the court in Zwolle for human smuggling. The prosecutor of the National Prosecutor's Office also wants almost two tons of criminal profits to be repaid to the State.

The criminal investigation, conducted by the Royal Military Police, uncovered large-scale smuggling of Syrian refugees through Italy, Hungary and Austria in 2014 and 2015. The smuggling organization consisted of recruiters, who recruited refugees in different countries and arranged drivers, money couriers, underground bankers and forgers of official documents.
