A year and a half after a noisy afternoon in Maastricht, Moussa O. (23) will hear whether he will spend the next few years in prison. He stabbed Jack Koker (55) to death that day in his home.
The question now is not whether Moussa stabbed the fifty-year-old to death, but why. The Greek-born man admits to stabbing Koker, but says he acted in self-defense.
Sixteen years
Justice believes nothing of that reading. Moussa and his girlfriend allegedly went to Koker's apartment, on Koningsplein in Maastricht, to buy drugs. When it came to paying, the Greek twenty-something allegedly stabbed his victim. If it were up to the prosecutor, the suspect would get 16 years in prison.
First and best
Attorney Sjanneke de Crom wants acquittal for her client and points to self-defense. "He had no choice, did the first and best thing that was at hand that day. That knife. And he stabbed with that, in order to escape from that house," she said after hearing the prosecution's claim.
