KERKRADE - Twenty-year-old Marco B. from Kerkrade has confessed to stabbing his 75-year-old grandfather in his home on Spireastraat in Kerkrade in February of this year. This has been announced by the Kerkrade man's lawyer Eric Maessen. The twenty-year-old Kerkrade man is now in custody. He is charged with attempted murder. The stabbing took place on February 25 in the home of the elderly man. Suspect Marco B. was visiting his grandfather when it suddenly came to an altercation between the two. What exactly was the reason for this argument is not clear. "The victim allegedly said something about my client's sister," said attorney Maessen. "Thereupon he stabbed his grandfather in the upper body." Marco B., who is also suspected of theft, receiving stolen goods and assault, is currently undergoing psychological examination. Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Cindy Reijnders did not want to comment substantively yesterday. The court in Maastricht will consider the case in a few weeks.
