Police have arrested another man for planning an assassination attempt in Sittard. He was arrested on Monday. Earlier, a 27-year-old man was arrested in the case.
This is according to information from L1. A justice spokeswoman confirmed the arrest.
Tipped early
The second suspect is a 36-year-old man. On Wednesday he was arraigned before the examining magistrate, who decided to extend the man's remand. Like his 27-year-old co-defendant from Sittard, he is suspected of involvement in planning an assassination attempt. The police were tipped off about the matter back in May.
Secret conversations
That information took more shape after chat service EncroChat was cracked. Many criminals used this service and felt unobserved for months, if not years. After the crack, investigative agencies suddenly gained insight into countless chat conversations. In this case, murder plans were allegedly discussed via EncroChat.
No explanation
Among other things, there were allegedly discussions about a weapon and the amount of money the liquidation would bring in. Lawyer Francoise Landerloo, who is assisting the 27-year-old suspect, declined to comment when asked.
Both the intended victim and the suspects have declined to say anything about the case to police at this time. A conflict in the drug environment is believed to have prompted the murder plans.
