Announcement justice large-scale DNA affinity search
In the investigative investigation into the murder of Nicky Verstappen, the Justice Department announced at a press conference on May 23, 2017, that it will conduct a large-scale DNA relationship investigation. The 11-year-old Nicky Verstappen from Heibloem was found dead on Brunssummerheide during a youth camp in August 1998. A perpetrator has never been found to date.
What implications might this have for you?
A DNA trace was found on Nicky Verstappen's clothing. To date, this DNA trace has not led to a match. Therefore, probably starting in the fall of 2017, a large-scale DNA relatedness search among the population will take place. You too may be called for this. But, what should you do if you receive a call and what rights and obligations do you actually have? And what happens to your DNA material after it has been compared with the DNA trace found on Nicky Verstappen's clothing? What happens if you refuse to cooperate with the DNA verification?
