Police arrested a man in Heerlen who tried to make off with stolen license plates. The license plate thief was taken off a flat Sunday afternoon after a chase and handcuffed, the Heerlen police wrote on Facebook.
Caught
The perpetrator was unscrewing a license plate from a van parked on the Elfershof. This was seen by a 16-year-old local resident who immediately alerted the police. The thief tried to sneak out via Frans Dohmenhof.
Roof
Police then cordoned off part of the neighborhood. Because officers could not immediately find the license plate thief, a police dog was deployed. Eventually, the man's hiding place was discovered. He had been hiding on a flat roof of a building on Cluysenaer Street. The man was taken off the roof and placed in handcuffs. The stolen license plates were also recovered
