GRONINGEN - The events leading up to the fatal shooting in Hoogezand that killed 26-year-old Amsterdam-based Farrel Provence (aka Rapper Rel) remain puzzling. Also for the prosecutor. Nevertheless, yesterday she demanded against the 27-year-old shooter Jason B. a prison sentence of eighteen years for murder, three attempted murders and robbery with violence. The prosecutor assumes that Jason B. robbed one of the later victims in Foxhol two days before the shooting. This included shooting. On Nov. 9, the victim of that robbery came to B.'s home with four friends, including Farrel Provence, to seek redress. In the small hall of the apartment house this ran out of hands B. fired five shots: four persons are hit. Provence dies as a result of blood loss later that night in a hospital in Amsterdam. It is determined that the bullets were fired with the same weapon that was also used to shoot at Fox den two days earlier. Jason B. also knew of the men's arrival at his residence: half an hour before, he had been called by one of them. From the fact that he opened the door anyway, justice draws the conclusion that B.,at that moment armed, sought the same confrontation. He could also have left the house, according to the justice department.Jason B. has a very different story. He says he had nothing to do with that robbery in Foxhol and states that he was besieged in his home that night by the four men with covered faces. They stormed inside and immediately began punching and kicking. In the process, a gun belonging to one of the intruders fell to the ground. B. managed to grab the firearm and fired. He says, "I was in a panic. It was self-defense, I had no other choice."
After the shooting, which lasted ten seconds in all, he ran in his underpants to an acquaintance two blocks away. There he called 911. He suspects that the men wanted to kidnap him or charge him with the theft of drugs. They would have received 5,000 euros each as a reward. That the assailants declare otherwise is logical, according to B.: by telling the truth they would incriminate themselves. The court will render its verdict on Sept. 9.
