Innocent Chinese hangs herself in cell
EVERTSOORD - A 35-year-old Chinese woman detained for involvement in the murder of her best friend Cha Jiao hanged herself with a tea towel in her cell at Ter Peel prison in Evertsoord, Limburg.
According to her counsel Mr. Serge Weening, she was innocent and had announced her decision to end it all to the judge as recently as last Thursday during a session of the council chamber in Maastricht. "She kept hearing little voices of the murdered friend in her head that forced her to take her own life. The judge only took her story for notice," the criminal lawyer said. Salient detail is that her 36-year-old boyfriend and prime suspect in the alleged corn money murder of Cha Jiao has long since confessed and the woman was formally no longer considered a suspect even though she had to remain in detention.
The body of Cha Jiao 45 was discovered last October in a travel case in a cornfield in the Limburg village of Nijswiller.
