Homework for justice in shooting case

MAASTRICHT - The court in Maastricht has ordered the public prosecutor (OM) in the case against François C. to conduct new investigations. The 29-year-old Brunssummer is suspected of attempted murder of two Heerlen residents in August of this year. According to the prosecution, C. allegedly shot the men several times with a firearm and also hit them on the head with a blackjack. The court asked the prosecution to investigate, among other things, the calibers of the bullets and the DNA on a balaclava found at the crime scene. In addition, the court wants the two victims to be heard again, as witnesses, about exactly how the shooting occurred. "It is important that we learn more about the positions of all those involved in the shooting," he said. Serge Weening, lawyer for François C., did not have a good word to say about the prosecution's methods. "It is bad that in this case a lot of things have not been figured out," Weening said. "The prosecution just wanted to get the case done." Prosecutor Sylvia Kuipers thought the latter was "nonsense. "We no longer put so much energy into this case. That had more to do with other cases, we thought this one was round."
