He received 10 years in prison in a high-profile case and Jahangir A. also grew marijuana in Helmond (ED.nl)

HELMOND - Jahangir A. is serving a ten-year prison sentence for manslaughter of Els Slurink of Groningen, but also had to answer Thursday for growing marijuana in Helmond. A. was not there himself Thursday, at the police court. His lawyer Bo te Baerts had expected him, but in the morning he suddenly did not want to take the van from the prison in Nieuwegein to Den Bosch. He was angry because they had not told him two days in advance that he would have to be transported.

Jahangir A. (48) is more often at odds with prison staff anyway. He also feels badly treated by the Dutch judges who sentenced him for the manslaughter of Els Slurink. The woman from Groningen was stabbed to death in March 1997. Because A. feels he was wronged in the Slurink case, he no longer speaks Dutch, only English. "A matter of principle," according to his lawyer.
