A group of men allegedly involved in a shooting in Rotterdam was arrested this afternoon at a mosque in the Maas city. Police suspect that the perpetrators fled into the mosque after the incident and therefore closed the mosque, a police spokesman told Novum.
Police received a report this afternoon about the shooting near the mosque. A window of a residence was reportedly smashed first. After that, shots would have been fired into the air. Why this happened is still unclear.
After the incident, the group reportedly fled into the mosque on Orange Tree Street, which police then closed. Those present were asked to go outside. In doing so, they were all searched by police. Fourteen men believed to be involved in the shooting were detained.
For a time, police suspected that another suspect was in the building. Therefore, the building was searched by an arrest team. However, the suspect was not found. However, police did find a pellet gun and a knife.
