The Public Prosecutor (OM) wants Sjaak S. from Baarlo to go to jail for three months for abusing two youth members of Handbal Venlo. In addition, the prosecution demands nine months suspended imprisonment.

The 62-year-old man confessed to performing lewd acts with two underage girls as a trainer.

Power ratio

According to the prosecutor, the sexual abuse was limited to touching and breast fondling. Aggravating circumstance is that S. knew that the girls were mentally challenged. There was also a clear power relationship between the coach and his pupils.

Evil

The prosecution further blames the suspect for continuing the acts until the moment he was caught. Two women saw him groping her breasts under a girl's shirt.

Security

S. made a confession. For him, it was not about erotic feelings, but a kind of security, the suspect says. He could not resist that. According to experts, the suspect has an autistic disorder and was impaired during the commission of the lewd acts.

Big secret

In a victim statement read in court, one of the victims says she had to live with a big secret. "I know now that it wasn't me who was wrong, it was you. You were not a friend. Talking about it now gives me back my confidence. You were wrong, not me," said one of the girls.

S.'s lawyer sees no point in a prison sentence. His client confesses, cooperates with his treatment and has also already been punished by the media attention and that everyone around him is familiar with the case. With the three nights S. was in jail after his arrest, his client has already been punished enough, the lawyer believes.
