RUURLO/ZUTPHEN - A 53-year-old man from Ruurlo suspected of sexually abusing his two daughters and three students at a judo school was sentenced Friday to four years in prison, one of which was suspended. This happened at the court in Zutphen.
The prosecutor also wants the man barred from practicing his profession as a judo teacher for nine years.
During the hearing, it became clear how the abuse was kept secret within the family for a long time. During the Christmas party in 2011, the bomb burst when the youngest daughter started talking about the abuse. For the oldest daughter, this was a huge shock. She too was abused by her father when she was about 12 years old, but she always kept it a secret. Twenty years after the fact, a report is still being filed. The police arrested the 53-year-old judo teacher last October. According to the justice department, investigations revealed that the man had also committed sexual acts with three more girls, students at his judo school.
The Ruurlo native denies the allegations.
