GRONINGEN - A man who was shot Sunday night after a robbery at a home in Hoogezand has died of his injuries. It is said to be the Amsterdam rapper Rel. He succumbed in the AMC hospital in his hometown.The 26-year-old occupant of the home on the Annie M.G. Schmidthof in Hoogezand had been detained since Sunday night on suspicion of involvement in a shooting. He was detained again yesterday, this time on suspicion of manslaughter. His lawyer Wilma Coppoolse confirmed this yesterday.The Hoogezand resident stated that he was attacked by a group of men. Among them the man who died in Amsterdam. The resident says he was immediately kicked and beaten at the door. After that there were several gunshots. The wounded Amsterdam man managed to escape with the others in a car and later died of his injuries in the AMC. On the Internet medium Twitter, an Amsterdam rapper reported that his friend Rel was shot dead. Sources from the Amsterdam news channel AT5 stated that he was shot in Hoogezand. "On Monday a man with a gunshot wound was brought into a hospital in Amsterdam. Later in the day he died. We have no indications that the person died from a shooting incident in our region," an Amsterdam police spokesman informed. The Groningen police confirmed that there had been contact with the Amsterdam police. "The investigation into the shooting incident is in full swing. We are taking the information from Amsterdam into the investigation. It is still too early to say that the man from Amsterdam was shot here," said press officer Sylvia Sanders.
