Maastricht man Mohammed G. is now officially suspected by the judiciary of participating in a terrorist organization because of a deadly kidnapping in South Africa.
That became clear Monday at a hearing before the court in Rotterdam.
Bitcoins
The prosecution now assumes that the Maastricht jihadist wanted to use the credit cards captured in a deadly kidnapping in South Africa for terrorist organizations. G. allegedly tried to buy bitcoins with the credit card data. These, in turn, would be used to purchase weapons, set up a training camp and conduct propaganda for a network of jihadists.
South Africa
In February, an elderly British couple was kidnapped in South Africa. Their bodies were recovered several weeks later. A South African couple is in custody for the kidnapping. Mohammed G. allegedly helped that couple with the further handling of the kidnapping and the removal of the loot.
