Prison sentence demanded in assault case of Born pub owner

BORN/MAASTRICHT - The Public Prosecutor's Office (OM) yesterday demanded one year in prison, six months of which were conditional with a probationary period of two years, against landlord Hub D. from Guttecoven in the court in Maastricht. The 61-year-old man is suspected of frequently assaulting three underage (former) employees in his pub In the Limburg Potin Born.
The three women have stated to the police that they had been indecently touched by D. The assaults allegedly took place in the basement and kitchen of the Born pub and during several car journeys. Hub D. allegedly touched the breasts and legs of the employees and wanted to French kiss them. D. allegedly forced the waitresses to undergo the lewd acts under threat of violence. Suspect Hub D., who repeatedly invoked his right to remain silent yesterday, did make a statement to the police. ,,I poked the employees, pushed them against me. My wife scolded them and I then hugged them, tried to cheer them up in the basement."

Prosecutor Anneke Rogier deemed the three assaults "legally and convincingly proven. ''As an employer, the defendant had a preponderance over the employees and there was a considerable age difference. He often created a threatening situation, because the victims could not get away from the basement. They were forced by Mr. D. to do things," said Rogier, who was disturbed by the pub owner's silence during the hearing. Erik Maessen, D.'s lawyer, asked the court to acquit his client in its entirety. Verdict in two weeks.
