K. was sitting on the toilet that particular Sunday when he heard his mother crying outside. There was an argument with the neighbor. The suspect put on his shoes, grabbed a kitchen knife and went after it.

What exactly took place there will not become clear Wednesday in the first pro forma hearing. But K. confessed to stabbing his neighbor in the back at some point. But with exactly how much force did he do that? And how deep did the knife actually go? Those questions are not answered by the current file, argues the defendant's lawyer Bo te Baerts. Indeed, the answers to those questions could tell something about whether her client intended to kill the neighbor or not.
