GELEEN - In the investigation into the violent death of Fer Loontjens from Geleen, police are looking for 33-year-old Gennaro S., who was previously convicted for his involvement in murders and robberies committed by the Leerdam gang.Sources around the investigation have confirmed this. S. allegedly dealt Loontjes the first blow on Carnival Sunday, February 3, which prompted the fatal altercation. Since then he has been a fugitive.
Gennaro S. was sentenced to seven years in prison in 1997 for his involvement in extremely violent incidents committed by a group of youths who became known as the Gang of Leerdam.
S. was a member of this gang, consisting of 14 Moluccan youths, in the 1990s. The gang members were convicted of more than ten violent and armed robberies of private individuals, illegal casinos and supermarkets, mainly in the Central Netherlands. The gang killed two people in the process. After his release in 2004, when he had served two-thirds of his sentence, S. lived alternately in Leerdam, Amersfoort and Geleen.
