Apprehension of diamond robbery at Schiphol Airport

A 26-year-old Colombian was arrested at Madrid airport on suspicion of a diamond robbery at Schiphol Airport. Last August, dozens of diamonds worth at least 53,000 euros were stolen from a branch of Gassan Diamonds at Schiphol Airport. According to the Spanish police, diamonds worth as much as 117,000 euros were allegedly stolen.

The thieves, probably a group of nine South Americans, had arrived at Schiphol Airport by plane from Paris. They stole the diamonds by distracting a saleswoman. They then traveled on to Istanbul. Spanish police say the suspect is part of an international gang. The Colombian is being extradited to the Netherlands.
