The Rotterdam District Court today acquitted a 38-year-old woman of participating in the terrorist organization IS and of committing acts of preparation for a terrorist crime. The prosecutor demanded a 5-year prison sentence.
According to the prosecution, the woman left Turkey in late 2013 with her Turkish husband to cross the Syrian border into IS territory, knowing that IS was a terrorist organization. Moreover, the woman's husband was allegedly working for IS. By starting a joint household with her husband, she actually joined IS, thereby numerically strengthening IS and the caliphate, according to the prosecution.
