The 29-year-old policeman from Singapore suspected of three rapes in Maastricht must serve seven years in prison, according to the justice department. This Raf S. himself states that he has never forced a woman to have sex with him.
That contradicts statements by three young women, who independently say they were drugged and then raped.
Maastricht student
Raf is a cop from Singapore who temporarily stayed in Maastricht from 2017 to pursue a master's degree in Human Development. However, his time in Maastricht is mostly marked by women accusing him of inappropriate behavior and worse.
Vulnerable women
The agent acknowledges that he sought female attention, for example through dating apps such as Tinder and Happn. "But I respect women, I would never harm them. My job is precisely to protect women. I even wrote a thesis on vulnerable women," he said in court on Tuesday. There he had to answer for the rapes.
Drugs in drink
All the victims, including a fourth woman who did not file a report, state the same thing. They came into Raf's apartment, were given something to drink and later lost consciousness. When they regained consciousness, they were naked or there were other signs that they had been abused. MDMA (a high dose) was also found in the women's blood and urine.
Psychological complaints
That each of the young women was left with psychological symptoms is highly regarded by the prosecution. A seven-year prison sentence is appropriate, according to the prosecutor. Raf is currently on remand for almost a year and a half. The moment he is released, he will be sent directly back to Singapore.
Lawyer argues that rape cannot be proven. There would be consensual sex.
