A 16-year-old girl and her now 30-year-old brother are being prosecuted for a fatal accident, in Echt last March.
This was confirmed by the judiciary following a report in De Limburger.
Tree
A 15-year-old girl was killed in the accident. A car with three teenage girls and a then 29-year-old man from Echt collided hard with a tree on the Breulderweg. The fifteen-year-old victim died at the scene. A fourteen-year-old girl was seriously injured.
Research
It was initially thought that the man was driving the car, but phone tapes later revealed that his then 15-year-old sister was driving the car. The Justice Department spent a long time investigating whether and how the two suspects could be prosecuted. According to the prosecution, the man was equally responsible for the accident because he did not intervene when his sister was behind the wheel. Therefore, according to the prosecution, he is just as responsible as his sister.
Treatment
The end of this month will reveal when the case will go to trial. The case against the girl is being heard behind closed doors because she is a minor. She is still under the juvenile justice system, so she faces a lower sentence than her brother.
