Jihad suspects relieved after acquittal (Telegraph.co.uk)
ARNHEM - Mohamed el A. and Hakim B. are relieved that the court in Arnhem has acquitted them of conspiring and preparing and facilitating the jihad struggle in Syria. El A.'s lawyer Serge Weening is pleased that the verdict states "clearly and unequivocally" that in the Netherlands you cannot be convicted based solely on your religious beliefs or ideology, if you have done nothing. Counsel had somewhat expected the acquittal.
The Public Prosecutor's Office (OM) stated two weeks ago that the evidence against the two Arnhemmers was sufficient to establish that they intended to join the armed struggle in Syria. Whether the OM will appeal, the prosecutor announced Monday morning, he could not yet say. The OM is studying the verdict.
