'Full acquittal of Hub L.' (Telegraph)
MAASTRICHT - Limburger Hub L., suspected along with his family of involvement in the killing of two Iraqis and dissolving their bodies in acid, must be completely acquitted of all charges. That is what his lawyer Françoise Landerloo pleaded this afternoon before the Maastricht court. The 60-year-old man was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Wednesday.
L. allegedly helped dispose of the body of Alan Gergeri (24), who was murdered by his youngest son Maurice, in 2009. In addition, the Sittarden native is alleged to have been involved in the murder of Mouhammed al Jader (29) from Schinveld, who was shot to death in L.'s home in Selfkant-Tudderen, Germany, in August 2011. Hub L. allegedly gave Al Jader the final shot after his wife Els fired several shots at the man.
Prosecutor David van Kuppeveld relies in this among other things on statements by L.'s former friend Ron van K., who was present at the shooting in question. "Completely unjustified," believes lawyer Françoise Landerloo. "Mr. Van K. does not know who fired the final shot, nor who held the weapon at all. His wife started shooting completely unexpectedly, so my client was taken completely by surprise."
In addition, Hub L. was also not involved in the disposal and destruction of the corpses, Landerloo concludes. "In my view, there are too many snags, too many eyes and too many ambiguities surrounding the imputations against my client. He has not done anything criminal, so he should be acquitted completely."
