Anand J., one of the main suspects in the sewer and trunk murder has invoked his right to remain silent before the court in Leeuwarden. J. was sentenced to 18 years in prison in 2010 because he is seen as the client for the murder of Almeerder René Karamatali. The appeal in the case will be heard in Leeuwarden this week.
The court expressed disappointment with J.'s refusal to answer questions about the case. J. said he invoked his right to remain silent on the advice of his lawyer.
The appeal in the sewer murder case continues Wednesday. It will then look at the role of a second prime suspect who initially received 30 years in prison.
