Disciplinary board taps physiotherapists (Limburger.nl)

GROENSBEEK/GELEEN - The regional disciplinary board for health care yesterday imposed a warning on two Limburg physiotherapists.

It concerns a physical therapist from North Limburg who did not adequately inform a patient about an embarrassing treatment in the pubic area. The disciplinary board considers the woman's complaint about transgressive sexual behavior by the physical therapist unfounded because the statements of the client and the therapist are diametrically opposed.

The 49-year-old woman from Groesbeek went to the police and to the disciplinary tribunal because the physical therapist performed pressure point massage around her pubic area when she only had a knee injury. The man was arrested late last year for lewdness and spent 38 days in pretrial detention. However, the court in Den Bosch released him. Justice has not yet decided whether the physiotherapist should go to trial.

The medical disciplinary body put first that a so-called friction treatment in the pubic area can also help for knee pain. But the physical therapist did not inform the woman sufficiently about this. He also did not ask her permission. The disciplinary board also imposed a warning on a physiotherapist at a clinic in Geleen who accepted a small inheritance from an 87-year-old former client. According to the disciplinary board, the argument that the treatment relationship had formally ended when the man changed his will is irrelevant. After all, there was "a short-term reward.
