Stabbing at cucumber cutting
A woman from Geleen stabbed her companion in the arm until bloodied while cutting cucumbers. Intent or accident? This is what the police judge in Maastricht considered yesterday. Actually, there wasn't much going on beforehand. The suspected Geleense (36) was cutting cucumbers in the kitchen when her boyfriend suddenly rushed in like a wild man. The pair may have had a few beers, but they were not more than slightly under the influence of alcohol. Nevertheless, it came to a skirmish, during which the man saw blood streaming from his arm. To the alerted police he told what had happened. Later, however, he would modify his reading and state that his girlfriend had not intentionally hit him with the kitchen knife. The man did not even file an official report. He only made a witness statement. The woman also made a statement about the events in the kitchen. However, she was not told by the investigators that she had the right to remain silent until a lawyer was called. Serge Weening, counsel for the Geleen, therefore asked the police judge to declare the prosecution inadmissible and acquit his client.
The police judge did not grant counsel's request "because there is sufficient other evidence. "Weening further questioned whether "a puncture in the arm is an attempt to inflict grievous bodily harm?" Added to this is the question of whether any of this was intentional. The defendant invoked her right to remain silent; her attorney was convinced not, as was the victim in this matter. The police judge, however, found that it was. She therefore sentenced the Geleense to two months suspended imprisonment. "Stabbing someone with a knife always happens intentionally." Reason for the lawyer to announce an appeal.
