If you eat out just a little too often without paying, you end up on water and bread. This was proven by a 33-year-old woman from Curaçao who had to answer to the court in Maastricht yesterday. Whether it was in Beek, Roermond, The Hague or Maastricht, it was the same story every time. She walked into a restaurant, gave the waiter an order, had an extensive meal and got up and left the restaurant without paying.
The latter went wrong more often than not. And finally, after pulling that trick again on March 23 of this year at Grand Café Malle Babbe in Maastricht, she was allowed to take a seat in jail with a full stomach. The woman has been in jail ever since.
Her lawyer Serge Weening asked the court to impose a sentence equal to remand. Prosecutor Leonard Geuns finds that'unpalatable': he demanded seven months in prison, minus remand. Verdict in two weeks.
